DEVIN WELBORN

TELLING STORIES ONE PANEL AT A TIME

The Artist

Devin is an Army brat who crash-landed in the armpit of the West Coast in the mid-90s, where he’s been sweating ever since. When he’s not making comics, he’s probably overthinking everything, yelling at his computer, or debating whether existential dread counts as a hobby.

  • Moving Forward

If you’ve noticed the radio silence over the last few months, there’s a simple reason for it: this summer completely gutted me.

Over a two-month span, everything hit at once. Between the exhausting stress of a potential job layoff, an abrupt forced move out of a primary workspace I loved into a high-traffic environment, and back-to-back heavy personal losses, my routine was completely upended. I was forced to put my long-form webcomic, Cabrón, on an indefinite hold.

All this culminated in the end of an eight-year relationship with a woman I love dearly. I was completely devastated and lost all motivation. When your foundation gets pulled out from under you, sitting down to draw comics or meet deadlines feels pointless, and my creative tank was nonexistent.

I had to start over while trying to pick up the pieces—and there were so many damn pieces. Eventually, it started to get a little easier day by day. I began drawing comics as therapy, processing what I was going through, and most importantly, forcing myself to just start drawing again.

I don’t know what my future holds, but I do know that I want to keep making comics. I’m still healing, but I’m in a strong place physically and mentally, with goals I’m actively working toward.

This site is a step in that direction. Moving forward, all my projects will still live on their dedicated sites, but dweltaco.com will act as the hub for all my creative work!
